Ever wanted to know what makes a puppet tick(lish)?
Over ten weeks Lachlan Haig and Ninian Donald of The Pooka Puppet Company conducted an intensive puppetry training workshop in conjunction with the Puppet Palace Project Co.. Lachlan and Ninian’s combined performance experience spans over 40 years, both nationally and internationally.
The workshop was based at Carclew’s Odeon Theatre in Norwood, where Lachlan is currently an artist in residence. It covered a diverse range of puppetry styles from hand puppets to Bunraku (a famous Japanese style), as well as the philosophy behind puppetry, character development, scripting, and making puppets.
This workshop was designed so that each participant will leave having created his or her own short puppetry performance. These performances will then appear in the 2008 Adelaide Fringe Festival as part of the Puppet Palace.
The Puppet Palace is a dedicated puppet venue hosting local and national puppeteers in The Garden of Unearthly Delights. From this workshop and subsequent performances we hope to discover prospective new members for the newly formed Pooka Puppet Company.
